What is Autism?
When I started writing this article I thought about my purpose. Do I want to educate? Yes, of course. I thought about giving you facts. But that isn’t the world that we parents live in. In my home, I don’t think about labels. My kid is not Autistic or disabled. He is simply my son. I love him. I could tell you that I’ve lied awake countless night worrying about my son and his future. I could tell you I haven’t slept through many night.

🌟 Special Needs Parenting Tip Of The Day ❤️ Navigating the Emotional Struggles of Advocacy: A Reflection
As a parent, there’s nothing more fulfilling than witnessing your child grow, gain confidence, and discover their place in the world. For me, watching my son achieve even the smallest milestones fills my heart with pride. I want him to feel good about himself, receive a quality education, and eventually step into independence with courage. But when the system around you feels like it’s working against those dreams, the sadness can be overwhelming—and it becomes deeply emotional.
Living in Florida, I’ve come to realize how challenging it can be to find the right resources and support for children with autism. The gap between what your child needs and what’s available can feel like an impossible canyon to cross. It’s not just about therapy or education; it’s about finding a community, professionals, and tools that truly see your child’s potential. The endless waiting lists, lack of specialized services, and the frustration of constantly hitting roadblocks can leave you feeling powerless.
Feeling sad is one thing; it’s a natural response to the hurdles life throws our way. But when sadness is tied to watching your child struggle in a system that feels indifferent, it becomes emotional on a whole other level. This isn’t just about me—it’s about my son and every child like him. It’s about wanting to give him the chance to thrive, to be celebrated for who he is, and to live a life that fills him with joy and pride.
To every parent in Florida (or anywhere) who feels the same, I see you. I know the long nights, the tears, and the determination it takes to keep going. We need change—real, systemic change—to ensure every child, regardless of their needs, has access to the support they deserve. Until then, we’ll keep fighting, celebrating the small wins, and holding onto the belief that our kids’ futures are worth every ounce of our effort. #autismfamily #autismmom #autism #tipoftheday
